Welcome to the website and blog of Dzogchen Monastery in Nepal. Established in Kathmandu by Tulku Pegyal Rinpoche in 1995, the full Tibetan name of our monastery is Gön Thubten Do Ngag Shedrub Dargye Ling [Monastery for Spreading the Buddhadharma: the Teachings and Practices from both Sutra and Tantra].

Sponsor A Young Monk

Please CONTACT US if you can sponsor our new young monks

They are the future not only of our monastery but also of the precious Dzogchen lineage.
After Tulku Pegyal's death, the monastery was run by the resident monks and nuns until in 2005 Tulku Sangye Dorje, at the age of 24 was appointed as head of the monastery.
Tulku Pegyals ashes are currently in the monastery.

Future plans for the monastery are to develop it as a place of study and practice. Plans are to start a small school for young monks and nuns to establish the ground of Tibetan Buddhist philosophy and then there are hopes to develop a shedra school training monks and nuns to a high level of Buddhist education.

Altogether we have now fifteen young boys as residential monks. Thirteen of them were brought in from Gorkha District, near the Nepal-Tibet border and the other two orphan were taken in at the request of their distant relatives here in Kathmandu. They are the future seeds of the Dzogchen lineage.

All the little monks are from remote village. Very basic and no opportunity of education. We would like to take in more orphan and semi-orphan boys but at the moment we are not able to to do so because of the tight financial constraint.

Their day is full of activity beginning from five in the morning till eight in the night with short breaks with in between.
Activity includes learning basic Tibetan alphabet, handwriting, memorizing, drawing and self study. They are also being taught English and local Nepali language every day except Saturday and Sunday. We are very happy to see them adjust very well.

We will need sponsorship help as the time passes by to catch up with the rising market prices and as seeds grow up. Currently we are facing difficulty meeting our ends. We highly appreciate sponsorship help and we are happy to provide the "Yearly Cost" of a monk at your request.
